Senator Ayotte Welcomes Pentagon's Decision to Lift Ban on Women in Combat

Jan 23, 2013

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released this statement following news reports today that the Pentagon plans to lift its ban on women serving in combat roles:

"I'm pleased by today's report that Secretary Panetta has accepted the Joint Chiefs of Staffs' recommendation to open more combat roles to women. I've seen firsthand servicemen and women working together in a range of dangerous operations to achieve our military objectives - and today's announcement reflects the increasing role that female service members play in securing our country. As the Pentagon begins the review process, I'm also glad that military service leaders will provide guidance on how best to implement this policy change."
